Interior Design

Description:

Do you have a flair for designing and decorating? If so, then let’s learn how to turn your interests and skills into a career. Explore color, texture, trends, and styles over time, how homes are built, and “green” options for homes and businesses. Interior designers do it all—from planning the color scheme to choosing furniture and light fixtures—with the end goal of creating a space where people can live or work comfortably, safely, and happily.

Special Notes:

This course requires students to use their choice of free CAD software, such as 3D Builder or 3D Slash.

FROM THE TEACHER

Some people seem to have an intuitive understanding of what makes a space “work.” They can place furniture in a room so it looks good and functions well. They can choose colors that look amazing together, and they can reuse old pieces in ways that make them look brand new. For these people, redecorating isn’t a chore…it’s an opportunity! Whether you already enjoy interior design, or whether you are brand new to it, this course can give you skills that you can use in a future career or in your own home. You will learn about the tools and equipment needed by interior designers, and you’ll discover principles and trends in design. This course gives you a chance to plan an entire design project for a fictitious young couple. Create the floorplan, make a mood board, select furniture, and present your proposal—and don’t forget to stay within budget!
