DC AP® Biology
Description:
This two-semester course covers first-year college biology material and prepares the student to pass the AP Biology Exam. Topics introduced in BIOL200 are explored in more depth and detail. The course utilizes hands-on labs, computer simulations, and lab videos to give students important laboratory experience. Videos and computer simulations are also used extensively as an aid in teaching biology concepts. Students taking the course should expect a challenging and rigorous academic experience. No special laboratory equipment or access are needed for this course.
Special Notes:
The dual credit honors track includes a deeper focus on critical thinking and analytical skills by providing students with more challenging problems and assignments comparable to what they would see at the university level. These elements will also prepare students to be successful in future upper-level and AP® courses.
The Dual Credit fee for CCU is included in the fee for this course.
Additional $50 CCU Lab Fee (BIO-111) added upon registration.
FROM THE TEACHER
Have you ever watched a sci-fi movie such as GATTACA or Jurassic Park, or heard about genetically modified foods or designer babies and wondered “how does that work?” Well here is your chance to learn about details of the human body, genetics, DNA technology, and so much more. If you enjoyed your regular high school biology class, you’ll relish the opportunity to study biology further in the AP® Biology course. It’s deeper, faster, more detailed and more interesting than your first biology class, and it will encourage you to wonder even more about the workings of living organisms, from the tiniest of bacteria, to cells, to ecology. One benefit of this course is the opportunity to do lots of labwork– some online, some in person (those you could do in an actual laboratory, if you have access to one, but also in your kitchen, or your backyard). Here is your chance to answer all those questions you’ve wondered about, and to think up so many more.
If there are books and materials for this course, they can be purchased from our Online Bookstore.
