Comparative World Religions

Description:

In this one semester course students will examine features of world religions with their significance in the development of religious thought. Students will be introduced to such religions as Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and the traditional religions of Africa, China, and Japan. Students will critique the various belief systems and compare them to the Christian worldview.

FROM THE TEACHER

Daily our world becomes more connected than ever before. One thing that comes along with this global connectedness is an increased exposure to religions other than Christianity. Christians should see this as an opportunity to fulfill the Great Commission. The nations are at our doorstep.

In this course, we will study the major religions of the world (like Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism,) in an attempt to understand them and engage with them from a biblical perspective.

With each day that goes by, the chance that you will begin to interact regularly (if you don’t already!) with practitioners of other faiths grows higher. This class will equip you with the training you need to understand what these people—made in God’s image just like you and me—believe, how they think, and how best to talk to them about our wonderful Savior!

If there are books and materials for this course, they can be purchased from our Online Bookstore.

Student Feedback

One word that comes to mind when I think of my World Religion experience is “enlightening”. There are so many things it taught about other religions and I feel so grateful to now have this knowledge.

I really enjoyed this class. I learned a lot, everything was easy to follow, and it was interesting.

My overall feedback in this course would be that every topic/group discussion we had it was always very interesting. Even if it felt like the group discussions were easy or simple I felt like I learned so much in just one group discussion. This course really teaches you about the different religions in detail and it makes it easier for everyone to understand the topic.
