Description:

In this course, students will discover how to draw the world around them using various materials including pencil, charcoal, colored pencils, and pastels! This course focuses on observational drawing and contains practical lessons on topics including shape, line, proportion, composition, shading, and visual texture while encouraging students to analyze and learn from historical artworks.

Special Notes:

Each student needs weekly access to a scanner and/or a digital camera in order to submit artwork.

FROM THE TEACHER

Want to expand your drawing abilities beyond doodles? Well this is your opportunity to draw still-lifes, landscapes, animals, learn One-Point Perspective techniques and much more! Introduction to Drawing will allow you to explore art in the context of God’s role as the ultimate Creator, while encouraging an appreciation for historical works of art.

This course focuses on the genre of REALISM. You will be given the opportunity to create realistic-looking drawings, but also incorporate creative ideas into your projects. After completing this course, you will have the foundational skills, known as Observational Drawing Skills, needed to continue to draw on your own!

Even though many people see drawing as something that one is naturally good at or just can’t do at all, in reality drawing is a skill-set that can be learned. Whether you are just beginning to draw or have some previous experience, the practical lessons in this course, which include the use of Light Logic and creating a VARIETY of VALUES to show depth, space, texture, and a sense of realism will dramatically improve your drawing ability. These skills will help you continue your individual artistic journey!
