Description:

Studio Music is a projects-based course that will equip students to utilize technology to create and edit music. The primary tool of the class will be the DAW (digital audio workstation). Course instruction will be delivered using Studio One 3 Prime by Presonus (a free download for Mac or PC), but students can complete all coursework using any DAW of their choice. Students will create music using both audio and midi regions, and students will explore basic DSP effects and midi keyboard concepts. In addition to the creative projects, students will complete exercises for developing the fundamental aural skills needed to be a successful studio musician. Finally, students will broaden their horizons by engaging with a variety of topics related to the field of music in general.

Do you enjoy listening to music, audio books, or movie soundtracks? Have you ever wondered how it is made or wanted to record something yourself? Studio Music is a projects-based course that equips students to utilize technology to create and edit music.

With the rapid technological growth and development of an Internet based society, recording audio is a crucial skill to develop and understand in order to communicate effectively.

Throughout the course students will create music using both audio and midi regions while exploring basic DSP effects and midi keyboard concepts. In addition to the creative projects, students will complete exercises for developing the fundamental aural skills needed to be a successful studio musician. Finally, students will broaden their horizons by engaging with a variety of topics related to the field of music ranging from musical composition for film, audio narration techniques, copyright law, music business, and audio technology.
