AP® European History
Description:
AP® European History is a college-level course covering the development of the modern world from approximately 1350 to the present day. Students develop and use the same skills and methods employed by historians: analyzing primary and secondary sources; developing historical arguments; making historical connections; and utilizing reasoning about comparison, causation, and continuity and change. Students will focus on historical themes to include: political, economic, cultural, social, technological, and intellectual institutions and their development. Students will develop an ability to analyze historical evidence through both primary and secondary sources which include maps, graphs, and artistic expression alongside written sources. Students will also develop an ability to analyze and express historical understanding in writing using the skills of sourcing, claims, and evidence, contextualization, complexity/making connections, and argumentation. While using a variety of sources, this course will emphasize reading comprehension, writing, research, and analytical skills through the lens of the Biblical worldview. This course is taught at the college level and is designed to prepare students to successfully complete the AP® European History Exam. AP® students will work closely with the teacher to improve their skills and to review their progress in preparing for this exam.
Special Notes:
If you are planning to take the AP® exam associated with this course, then be aware that beginning in Fall 2019 the College Board requires that all students register in October of each school year to take the exam which is held in early May. You must make your decision early. There are penalties associated with late registration and with registering and then deciding not to take the exam at a later date. Please plan accordingly. For more information or if you have more questions, please visit https://apcentral.collegeboard.org . Once on the site, search Home-Schooled Students to find information on locating testing locations near you.
As an online school, NorthStar Academy is not a testing center. We are a certified AP course provider. Students must locate a face to face school in their local area that will allow them to sit the exam with their students.
This version of the course is not Dual Credit eligible. To receive Dual Credit, you must register for the DC version of this course, if available.
FROM THE TEACHER
Europe, a continent with over one thousand years of what has come to be known as “Western Civilization.” This is a land of clans, tribes, castles, cathedrals, political wars and religious wars. A land which is known for its ingenious architecture, its vast and various artwork, its inventors, kings, tyrants and villains. Beginning with the latter Middle Ages, we will travel through the times of the Renaissance, Reformation, Exploration and on to the 21st century. As we move through this AP® course, you will be challenged not only in your understanding, but also in your critical thinking, your analytical skills, and written expression.
