AP® Literature and Composition

Description:

AP® English Lit is designed to prepare students for success on the Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition exam and in continuing university level studies in Literature and Composition. The course is designed to challenge students through spirals of literature study that increase in complexity. Students who perform well in the course will demonstrate a strong curiosity regarding the tools and resources of language in literature and enthusiastically engage in meaningful analysis of poetry, short fiction, novels, and drama.

Special Notes:

If you are planning to take the AP® exam associated with this course, then be aware that beginning in Fall 2019 the College Board requires that all students register in October of each school year to take the exam which is held in early May. You must make your decision early. There are penalties associated with late registration and with registering and then deciding not to take the exam at a later date. Please plan accordingly. As an online school, NorthStar Academy is not a testing center. We are a certified AP course provider. Students must locate a face to face school in their local area that will allow them to sit the exam with their students.

This version of the course is not Dual Credit eligible. To receive Dual Credit, you must register for the DC version of this course, if available.

FROM THE TEACHER

The AP Literature and Composition Exam has the reputation of being one of the more challenging of the AP exams. It’s true that Literature analysis can be intimidating, but this course is designed to quell fear and instill confidence! The experience of quality Literature is essential to life, so I’ve selected each of our readings for enjoyment and effective analysis. Throughout the course, you will grow in your understanding of literary terms and tools, and then, through guided practice and reflection, you will strengthen your analytical and composition skills. We are going to work through each genre and skillset featured on the AP Literature Exam so you will be prepared and confident. I’m excited to share this learning journey with you and celebrate your success!
