Environmental Science

Description:

Environmental science is an interdisciplinary field of science that studies the interactions of the physical, chemical, and biological components of the environment and the relationships and effects of these components with the organisms in the environment. This Environmental Science course is a one semester study designed to introduce students to a broad view of the biosphere, major ecological concepts, and the environmental problems that affect the world. The course surveys key topic areas such as the application of scientific processes to environmental analysis, ecology, energy flow, ecological structures, earth systems, and atmospheric, land, and water science. The course will promote awareness and understanding of practical everyday problems and why we should be better stewards of God’s creation. Chemistry, physics, biological, technological, and biblical concepts are integrated throughout the course. The course is based on five units of study. The first unit is lengthy but provides the foundation for understanding environmental science. Upon completion of this unit, the course then covers four of the most precious resources we have – air, water, land, and energy. Each of these is covered in a separate unit.

FROM THE TEACHER

Do you know when the first environmental law was created? Did you know there is another global environmental issue occurring, and it’s not ‘Climate Change’? Do you know what the term ‘carrying capacity’ means? Well, don’t feel bad if you don’t know the answers to these, because I didn’t until I began to study and learn more about the environmental issues facing society.

I want to personally invite you to sign up for Environmental Science and learn the answers to these and other questions. You will also learn about the major problems we face as a society and potential solutions to them. Environmental Science is not a ‘pure’ science like biology or chemistry, but rather it is an integrated science that brings into play all the science disciplines. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you be at least a junior in high school in order to appreciate the course to its fullest.

Upon completion of this course, you will have a firm grip on the major environmental issues facing the world, you will be able to recognize them as you move through life, and you will have a greater appreciation for our home – planet Earth! There’s only one Earth, and we need to be better caretakers of it.

Join me and others as we understand more about the environmental issues facing society here on God’s Earth, Our home!!

If there are books and materials for this course, they can be purchased from our Online Bookstore.

Student Feedback

I think this course is very well put together and very fun and I don’t think it needs any improvements.

The teacher was very helpful on his instructions and guidance.

The teacher involvement in this course (in the form of videos) is VERY good.
