US History Honors

Description:

In this topical approach to US history, students will analyze trends and themes that reoccur over time. Students will develop their ability to communicate clearly through writing, using strong historical evidence and centering their Christian worldview. Emphasis will be placed on reading comprehension, particularly of primary sources, and independent reflection, as well as research and the use of reliable sources.

NOTE for Honors: US History Honors (HIST350) is an enriched version of HIST310. The supplemental analysis, texts and assignments in the Honors course allow students the opportunity to reinforce their learning as they gain a deeper understanding of the material. Students are supported by the teacher and by the lessons themselves as they work through the course. Students in the Honors course can expect an average of 1-2 hours of work per week in addition to the regular course content.

Special Notes:

This course is a part of the honors track. Intentional focus will be on the knowledge and skills required to prepare a student for success in future upper level and Advanced Placement (AP) courses.

FROM THE TEACHER

Join me for an in-depth exploration of important moments in US history! In this class, we’ll be analyzing primary sources, including texts but also art and photographs. We’ll be doing a lot of thinking, writing, and discussing, as well as fun projects! The way this class is organized by topic will give you an excellent opportunity to compare ideas across historical events. You’ll have a great foundation for applying those ideas and Christian principles to modern-day events as well!

If there are books and materials for this course, they can be purchased from our Online Bookstore.

Student Feedback

I enjoyed the interactive aspect of the Jamestown Colony activity and thought it was a great way to creatively learn.

I am learning a lot, especially because I am coming from Canada! I am really enjoying the course and am finding it very interesting, thank you so much!

The class is going well so far. This is one of my favorite classes because history has always been an interest of mine. I think the workload is fair, the teacher feedback given is very helpful, and the material is interesting to read about and learn.

So far I have liked the course. At first I was a bit hesitant about the SOAPST but after the first couple I was good to go. I like how you include videos to make it come more alive. I actually like doing the maps because I am not very good with maps so it is helpful as a visual to see where things happened.
