Description:
Language Arts 8 offers students a variety of reading genres as students work toward mastery of middle grade reading and writing skills. This course is designed to solidify reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar practices so that students are well-prepared to move into high school level courses. Students will engage with both fiction and nonfiction texts while participating in frequent and systematic writing activities to develop proficiency within the narrative, informational, and argumentative genres.
FROM THE TEACHER
Join me in this course to become proficient readers and writers. Throughout the year, you will delve into the worlds of a dystopian in The Giver, the Klondike Gold Rush in The Call of the Wild, the Holocaust tragedy in The Diary of Anne Frank, and the history of meals in The Omnivore’s Dilemma. We will also read the most wonderful short stories where we will learn deeply about the characters, theme, plot, and setting. In this class, you will create a poetry journal where you will collect your original poetry that showcases your prowess as a poet.You will be challenged to become skilled writers and researchers as well as masters of grammar and vocabulary. Get ready to soar to new heights and experience many new adventures in this NorthStar EL8 course.
