Description:
This course is designed to teach students how our modern world emerged from ancient times through the Middle Ages and World Wars up to today. Students will connect historical events to current events and develop an awareness of God’s sovereign hand on human history. Students will develop research, interpersonal communication, critical thinking, and Bible literacy skills.
NOTE for Honors: World History Honors (HIST250) is an enriched version of HIST200. The supplemental reading and activities in the Honors course allow students the opportunity to reinforce their learning as they gain a deeper understanding of the material. Students are supported by the teacher and by the lessons themselves as they work through the course. Students in the Honors course can expect an average of 1-2 hours of work per week in addition to the regular course content.
Special Notes:
This course is a part of the honors track. Intentional focus will be on the knowledge and skills required to prepare a student for success in future upper level and Advanced Placement® (AP®) courses.
FROM THE TEACHER
Welcome to World History Honors. In this course, you have the awesome opportunity to study the highlights of key things that have occurred in our world from Creation all the way until the present day. This truly is a world history course, whereby we take a look at the history of civilizations and societies on every continent, except for Antarctica. Come and join the journey of investigating the amazing events, people, perspectives, movements, trends, and worldviews that shape our present day world. Emphasis is placed on making connections from past to present as well as analyzing various perspectives and sources. Throughout the course you are given formal opportunities to go deeper and look further into things that interest you personally. You are challenged along the way to consider the Biblical worldview of history and analyze the many viewpoints, whether Biblical or not, that have shaped our world. At certain points in the course, you even have the freedom to determine what areas of the world you want to study further. As this course is taught at the honors level, you will have the opportunity to go even deeper in investigating sources and perspectives, and you will be challenged to grow in your ability to think critically about the key events and developments that you are learning. Emphasis is also placed on helping you to be in a solid position to take an AP level social studies course at some point in your future. So again, come and join us on this journey of seeing God’s providential hand in the unfolding of His story throughout the history of the world.
